Three places in your house you’re probably forgetting to clean

Routine household maintenance requires some organization and a considerable amount of dusting, a task that many may find unappealing. Despite regular cleaning efforts, certain areas in your home might be overlooked.

As the global count of Omicron infections rises, maintaining cleanliness becomes crucial. Here, we highlight three common areas in your home that demand attention:

1. **Doorknobs, Handles, Switches:**
Among the most frequently touched surfaces in a household, it’s essential to reconsider your approach to cleaning doorknobs, door handles, window handles, light switches, and other similar surfaces. Dust, grime, and bacteria can accumulate, so it’s advisable to sanitize them using disinfectant wipes or an antibacterial solution. Spray bottles can facilitate easier application. UNICEF recommends using a disinfectant with around 70 percent alcohol or bleach, discouraging the use of vinegar and other natural products.

2. **In and Around Laundry Baskets:**
Laundry baskets, especially in and around them, can harbor uncleanliness and serve as a breeding ground for bacteria, particularly from dirty or used clothes. Regularly disinfecting your laundry bag is crucial to prevent contamination on clothes. Additional precautions include removing shoes upon entering your home and changing into clean clothes after being in crowded places.

3. **Kitchen Sink:**
While you may believe you are adequately cleaning your kitchen sink, there’s always room for an extra effort to keep it impeccably clean. Food particles, both raw and cooked, along with residue from washing dishes, create an ideal environment for bacteria to thrive if left unattended. Daily cleaning with a bleach and water solution, followed by pouring it down the drain, is a reliable method. Utilizing a surface disinfectant and a dedicated, grooved brush with firm bristles ensures a thorough clean every time, maintaining a sparkling kitchen sink.
